The St. Paul Companies has joined 14 other insurance companies in a unified effort to combat the growing problem of insurance fraud. The firm is now part of the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud (CAIF), a national organization dedicated exclusively to fighting insurance fraud through public advocacy and education.

"The St. Paul has had a long-standing commitment to reducing fraud incidence and was one of the first insurance companies to form an internal unit devoted exclusively to combating insurance fraud," said Mike Conroy, executive vice president, The St. Paul Companies. "We're looking forward to partnering with other insurance companies and public interest groups to share and exchange information about fraud issues."

"We're pleased that The St. Paul Companies decided to join the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud," said Dennis Jay, executive director, CAIF. "Together, with other insurers, consumers, regulators, legislators and prosecutors, we will form a strong alliance in the battle against insurance fraud."

As part of its membership in the CAIF, The St. Paul was given a seat on the organization's board of directors. Paula Schlotfeldt, vice president, The St. Paul Companies, will fill that position. In addition, The St. Paul's membership in the CAIF will help to fund awareness campaigns in New Jersey and New York.

In its ongoing effort to combat insurance fraud, The St. Paul has set up a toll-free hotline. Policyholders are asked to call 1-877-FRAUD-ID to report any incidence of fraud.
