Skyscraper Taking Aon Name as Part of Chicago Millennium Celebration

Aon Corporation says that its future headquarters at 200 East Randolph will be officially renamed Aon Center on December 31, 1999. The renaming of the building, formerly known as the Amoco Building, symbolizes Aon's commitment to Chicago and its position as a leading global provider of risk management and consulting services. The building renaming will take place during the City of Chicago millennium festivities.
``We are extremely proud to associate the Aon brand with a Chicago landmark,'' said Patrick Ryan, chairman and chief executive officer of Aon Corporation. ``Renaming this property the Aon Center is particularly appropriate during the millennium celebration as it symbolizes our company's worldwide growth and our commitment to our Chicago roots. As we move into the next century, the move of our headquarters to the Aon Center marks another significant milestone for us.''
``This relocation effort is part of our overall strategy to support our continuing growth in an ever more efficient and cost-effective manner,'' added Ryan.
Designed by Edward Durell Stone, the 1136 foot tall building has no corner offices. Several years ago it had its marble surface replaced with North Carolina granite because the marble was peeling off. Stone also has designed a residence hall at the University of Chicago, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs office, and buildings at the State Univer5sity of New York at Albany.
Aon in September announced it had signed a long-term sublease agreement to relocate its downtown corporate headquarters to the Amoco Building in September 2001. Aon will occupy 515,000 square feet on floors three through 20 of the 2.4 million-square-foot tower.
