Seibels Bruce Group Names Tom Savage Acting President And CEO

Charlie Powers, chairman, Seibels Bruce Group, Inc. has announced that Tom Savage, a 17-year veteran of South Carolina's property and casualty insurance industry, will assume the position of acting president and chief executive officer of the Company. Savage will replace John Weitzel, who is resigning to pursue other interests.

Savage, 52, joined Seibels Bruce in July of this year as chief financial officer. This appointment followed 13 years as chief financial officer with Unisun Insurance Company in Charleston, SC, and its parent, Michigan Mutual Insurance Company of Farmington, MI.

Powers commented, "Tom, by background and experience, is well qualified to lead Seibels Bruce into the future as the company positions itself to capitalize on nonstandard automobile, flood, and commercial insurance opportunities. We are confident that Tom's understanding of the property and casualty insurance industry and his commitment to the independent agency system will benefit the company strategically."

Savage, whose experience includes service on the board of directors of the North Carolina Reinsurance Facility and a variety of roles for the South Carolina Reinsurance Facility, stated, "I am excited and enthusiastic about managing the challenges that face Seibels Bruce. We have outstanding employees, a wonderful reputation, and superior products. I believe Seibels Bruce is positioned to make a significant impact in our markets in the months and years ahead.
