Scor Group has announced the opening of a representative office in Beijing. The company also says it "reaffirmed its development strategy in Asia-Pacific and commitment to the Chinese market."

On receipt of the license, Scor's Chairman and CEO Jacques Blondeau said, ``We are delighted to have been authorized by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission to open an office in Beijing. It will enable our teams to respond faster to the needs of the Chinese market and provide our clients with an improved quality of service.''

Scor says it has been doing business with the Chinese insurance market for more than 30 years, having established treaty and facultative business relationships with all the domestic insurance and reinsurance companies.

The company is particularly active in the reinsurance of large corporate risks and infrastructure projects in China. The group says that over the years, it has developed a strong facultative portfolio, namely in construction and property insurance for energy, transportation systems, high tech and environmental projects.

Mrs. Xiao Dong Zhang, who joined Scor in Hong Kong in April 1999, will head the Beijing office. She is a graduate in economics from the Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Economics & Trade and holds a MBA from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Paris.

SCOR Group is also represented in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Labuan, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
