Rhode Island Agent John Divver Honored with National Political Action Committee Award

John Divver, CIC, the 1997 Rhode Island state InsurPac chairman, was honored yesterday with the InsurPac Young Agent Recognition Award by the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA).

The award recognizes the increasing contributions of Young Agent InsurPac state chairmen and honors specific achievement in building InsurPac contributions and grassroots political advocacy among young agents. IIAA President Bud Wilson presented the award at the Association's 22nd annual National Legislative Conference in Washington.

The InsurPac Young Agents Award is presented annually by IIAA to young agents who have made the greatest overall contribution and have exhibited the most dedication to InsurPac fundraising.

Divver, of Cain & Divver, Inc. in Pawtucket, RI, was commended for surpassing his state's InsurPac fundraising goal for 1997 and for motivating young agent contributors-with one-fifth of contributors being young agents.

"The real value and long-lasting impact of young agent involvement in the political process cannot be underestimated, a fact that John recognized throughout his year as Rhode Island's InsurPac chairman," says Wilson.

"John realized that having young agents actively involved in the early stages of their professional careers lays the foundation for long-term involvement in not only InsurPac, but in all areas of the IIAA legislative arena-from grassroots advocacy to political activism," Wilson adds.

"John's innate ability to motivate other young agents will help build a perpetually revitalized network of legislative advocates by broadening the appeal of political action to all agents," Wilson continues. Through his efforts, the Rhode Island association and IIAA will be able to continue counting on the tradition of agent grassroots activism to advance the interests of agents in the state house and in Washington, D.C.

"IIAA's mission to reach out to young agents can only be accomplished through the tremendous efforts of agents like John. The future certainly looks bright for the independent agency system. We applaud John for a job well done," concludes Wilson.

InsurPac, IIAA's political action committee (PAC), was established in 1975 to complement the Association's legislative programs. The largest PAC in the property-casualty industry, InsurPac serves an important function for IIAA's government affairs program by providing a cohesive voice in our nation's capital.
