Mercury Interactive Corporation has launched QuickTest 2000, a visual testing tool for AS/400 and mainframe systems that captures business processes into a visual map to automatically generate data driven tests. This reduces the time that test engineers are involved in interviewing, documenting and creating scripts, enabling them to tackle a greater number of applications in a shorter amount of time, according to the company.

QuickTest 2000 is made up of two main components. The QuickTest Recorder is designed to enable those involved in the day-to-day business operation to automatically document key business processes while navigating through an application. The captured business processes become the foundation for test planning and test script generation within the QuickTest Designer. The Designer can automatically map the recorded business process and highlight fields where information can be inserted on each screen.

After QuickTest 2000 has been used to generate and age data driven test scripts, WinRunner 2000 can then replay the scripts to validate that the application will function as expected, the company adds. Finally, QuickTest 2000 test scripts can then be stored in TestDirector for managing the overall year 2000 testing effort.
