Quagliaroli To Replace Stanway As President Of The Hartford's Commercial Operations
The Hartford has promoted Richard Quagliaroli to president of Hartford Commercial from his previous position as executive vice president of sales and regional operations for the insurance group's commercial insurance company. He succeeds William Stanway, who is returning to his native Great Britain. The change is effective September 1, 1998.
"We're very pleased to have someone of Rick's caliber leading our commercial operations," says The Hartford's CEO, Ramani Ayer. "Rick brings to his new role the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that have highlighted his career with The Hartford."
Quagliaroli, 50, has led the commercial lines field operations since 1996. Before that, he headed The Hartford's Southern Division commercial lines operations where he successfully expanded The Hartford's growth in the southern market.
"His strategy for increasing sales of small commercial insurance was especially successful," Ayer comments. Before leading the Southern Division, Quagliaroli managed The Hartford's Chicago regional office, which under his leadership grew into The Hartford's largest regional office.
Quagliaroli joined The Hartford in 1970 in Houston. In 1985 he became general manager of the Long Island regional office and in 1986 he was named general manager in Chicago. He became vice president and Southern Division manager in 1994.
"Bill Stanway has done a superb job with our commercial operations," notes Ayer. "He provided the strategic business leadership that leaves the Commercial company well positioned for continued profitable growth. We deeply appreciate Bill's business acumen and leadership in building a strong management team."
Commenting on his planned departure, Stanway, in his current position since June 1996, says, "I believe the right people are in place, and we've developed solid business strategies to fuel the momentum we've built. We've successfully packaged our small commercial product, which brings distinctive value to our agents and customers. We've also exploited technology to make it easier for our agents to do business with us." Stanway joined the company in 1987.
At year-end 1997, Hartford Commercial was responsible for about 30 percent of the parent company's revenues of $13.3 billion.
