Epson has unveiled its first megapixel camera, an auto-focus camera that captures 1280 x 960 pixel resolution photos in fine detail and sharp, bright colors. The company says that by using advanced image processing and enhancement algorithms, Epson's ColorTrue in-camera processing system combined with high-quality aspherical glass optics ensures that each picture captured has excellent color accuracy, saturation, balance and contrast.

For advanced picture quality adjustments, the PhotoPC 700 also offers a choice between auto exposure and manual exposure and between Auto White Balance and Fixed White Balance.

The PhotoPC 700 features several picture modes including full size (1280 x 960 pixel), panoramic, close-up/macro, 2x digital zoom and Continuous Shoot VGA, all in 16.7 million colors or sharp black and white. Using the 2x digital zoom or panoramic picture modes, users and ``crop-on-the-fly'' capturing only the information they need, thereby minimizing file sizes to conserve valuable storage capacity for additional images.

The Continuous Shoot mode allows users to capture two 640 x 480 pixel images per second, up to a maximum of 10 images. Additionally, users can also quickly delete unwanted images immediately after capturing them with the new Fast Erase feature.

The PhotoPC 700 also comes with a Tiffen lens adapter enabling customers to attach standard 37mm wide angle or telephoto lenses to achieve a desired effect. Similar to traditional film cameras, this add-on lens feature allows users to customize and accessorize the PhotoPC 700 with the type of lens best suited for their application needs.

The camera offers a built-in, 2" active matrix color LCD monitor, perfect for framing shots or navigating through the camera's View and Playback modes to access its many features. In the View mode, this fast refresh LCD monitor allows users to view ''through the lens`` in real-time.

In the Playback mode, pictures taken can be reviewed, erased or protected via the LCD monitor and designated control buttons. Additional Playback options include: setting the camera's date and time, displaying picture information, viewing pictures as a slideshow, erasing one or all images and more. For those who prefer a more traditional approach, the PhotoPC 700 also offers an optical viewfinder for picture taking.

The PhotoPC 700 comes equipped with Epson's Direct Print software and cable, enabling the camera to print directly to a variety of Epson's color ink jet printers without using a computer. With Direct Print, users can print images in a variety of sizes such as 4" x 6'', 5" x 7", contact sheet, photo stickers, etc., via the menu options available in the Playback mode of the camera. Pictures taken with the PhotoPC 700 can always be printed on any printer once they are downloaded to a computer.

The PhotoPC 700 comes with 4MB of internal memory which enables users to capture up to 50 standard, 15 Fine or 7 SuperFine resolution images without the Direct Print driver installed. Internal memory ensures that the camera is always ready for picture taking even if the removable storage card has been misplaced.

For maximum storage flexibility, the PhotoPC 700 supports optional removable and reusable CompactFlash storage cards, which can be used like rolls of digital film. When inserted into PCMCIA adapters, CompactFlash cards can be quickly and easily read by any notebook or desktop computer with a PCMCIA reader or any Windows CE device with a CompactFlash card slot.

For greater display versatility, the PhotoPC 700 provides a video output signal which enables users to play back captured images on any television, VCR or multimedia projector such as Epson's PowerLite 5000XB portable LCD projector. For business users, this video output capability, along with Epson's Photo! File Uploader software, transforms the PhotoPC 700 into an affordable presentation tool.
