London Insurance Institute Lecture Program Moves To Lloyd's

Insurance Institute of London's (IIL) highly successful program of lectures has found a temporary new home at Lloyd's. Established in 1907, the objectives of the Insurance Institute of London are to raise the levels of professional knowledge of those working in insurance in London and to assist members in their career development. These objectives are achieved through an extensive lecture and debate program together with various courses and study schemes.

The London Institute holds some 60 lunchtime lectures and debates each year designed to cover a comprehensive range of topical insurance and insurance related issues of interest to the London market. In recent years, these lectures have been held at the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) Leadenhall Street premises but, as this facility will not be available from the end of this year, Lloyd's is to make its Old Library available for the balance of the session's program from January to April 1999.

Max Taylor, chairman of Lloyd's, said, "The Insurance Institute of London has established an enviable reputation for the breadth and depth of its lecture program. We at Lloyd's attach the greatest importance to continuing professional education and I am delighted that we have been able to provide the Institute with facilities to continue to ensure its significant contribution to maintaining London as a world center for insurance expertise."

Laon Hulme, OBE, secretary of the London Institute, added, "The Institute greatly appreciates Lloyd's generosity in making its Old Library available to us. It is ideal both for our lectures and their global presentation via Internet. Our location at Lloyd's will enable the final part of the 1998/1999 Institute lecture program to continue uninterrupted and be enhanced by its location at the heart of the London insurance market."

For the first part of 1999, IIL lectures will be held in Lloyd's Old Library, which is accessible through the concourse entrance of the Lloyd's building at One Lime Street. Those wishing to attend will need to hold: a Lloyd's pass, a blue or gold London Underwriting Center (LUC) pass, a blue ILU pass or a Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) membership card. Those without any of these passes will need to contact the IIL at least one day before the event to ensure entry.
