Kirke-VanOrsdel Sale To Marsh-Mac Complete
Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. says it has completed the acquisition of Kirke-Van Orsdel, Inc. (KVI) and the company's 49 percent stake in J&H/KVI.
KVI, a recognized leader in the design and administration of insurance and employee benefit programs for associations, professional societies and corporations, will become part of Seabury & Smith, Inc., Marsh & McLennan Companies' insurance program management unit. Seabury & Smith is negotiating to sell the human resources outsourcing functions of KVI and J&H/KVI to Automatic Data Processing.
"We are enthusiastic about the combination of KVI and Seabury & Smith," says A.J.C. Smith, chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies. "The businesses complement one another and together make possible more efficient client service and growth. KVI, with its reputation for innovative solutions and excellent service, brings a new dimension to Seabury & Smith and significantly increases the size and reach of our insurance program management business."
As part of Seabury & Smith, KVI will continue to direct and operate its business lines from Des Moines. KVI represents Marsh & McLennan Companies' fourth largest concentration of employees in the United States, and it accounts for half of Seabury & Smith's total domestic operations.
Smith also announced that Kirke Dorweiler, who has been president of KVI since 1991, will continue to lead the company's plan administration and insurance broking operations with the same operational management and sales teams.
"By teaming with Seabury & Smith, KVI and its 1,500 employees are part of a respected worldwide organization conducting business in more than 100 countries," Dorweiler says. "The major advantage to our clients and employees is that we will have access to a broader base of financial resources and technological tools, both of which are necessary to keep pace with changes in today's environment and to ensure future growth and advancement."
