New feature promotes early and appropriate medical and disability management interventions through online services and reference tools

PHILADELPHIA, July 10, 2000 -- Intracorp has launched the Claims ToolboxSM -- the latest component of its business-to-business Web site, Intracorp Online, available at www.intracorp.com. This new resource provides workers' compensation, auto and short- and long-term disability claims professionals with the medical and vocational management tools to help reduce overall claim expenditures, improve patient outcomes and facilitate timely and sustained return to work.

The Claims Toolbox promotes the integration of medical and disability management with the claims administration process through the decision-support tools, reference materials and services included. It also serves as a business tool, providing fast, efficient industry and clinical information as well as access to medical and vocational management expertise -- assisting claims professionals in applying appropriate interventions throughout the life of a claim.

"The promise of the Internet for claims professionals is in its ability to complement human interaction, rather than replace it," says Fred Scardellette, vice
president, Disability Management. "Through its Web-enabled referral process, this resource enables more efficient decision-making and timely case resolution. And by improving workflow, it allows claims professionals to focus their expertise on the most complex components of a claim."

Bolstering its ability to help claims professionals make decisions about appropriate medical and disability management intervention, the Claims Toolbox includes a 90-day free trial of the Assessment Reference Tool. Through this tool, claims professionals access Intracorp's proprietary optimal disability and treatment guidelines, which cover the most common occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, to facilitate earlier return to work and reduce overall claims costs.

For claims that present more complex medical or return-to-work issues, claims professionals will be able to easily make online referrals to Intracorp's case managers, physician advisors or to the company's disability medical evaluation partner, Bay Brook Medical Services. One of the country's largest providers of objective medical evaluations, Bay Brook brings nearly two decades of experience and a national network of more than 15,000 providers, representing some 30 medical specialties.

Today, claims professionals can track referred disability medical evaluation cases to more accurately set reserves, comply with jurisdictional requirements and improve claims and medical outcomes. As the Claims Toolbox evolves, it will provide real-time access to robust case tracking and reporting.

Access to the Claims Toolbox is password protected. Interested claims professionals can register free of charge by visiting www.intracorp.com and clicking the log in button within the Intracorp Online box on the Intracorp home page. First-time users must register and select an identifying User ID and Password. Once registered, claims professionals simply select their role (claims professional) and enter their confirmed User ID and Password for access.
