A new service called Electronic Business Security Services (EBSS) is available to help companies grow their electronic business with confidence. EBSS offers corporations the tight security framework and accompanying confidence necessary for large-scale, business-to-business Web transactions. This service can help clients maintain information and transaction integrity as they enter into mature electronic business markets. Critical transactions, such as wire transfers and sensitive information relating to health care or supply chains, are typical examples of the data and processes these services can help protect.

By thoroughly addressing every phase of a client's electronic business environment – from managing network security to authorizing user access to disaster recovery – this electronic service can help facilitate a secure environment from which to conduct that business. The offering focuses on identification, authentication and authorization services. It verifies that the people you're dealing with electronically are exactly who they say they are and that they are authorized to do what they are attempting to do. The safeguards include Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs), digital certificates validated by a trustworthy third party process that verifies a user's identity before granting system access. Authorization applications within the system include single sign-on, access control and identification techniques. Identification may take place through smartcards, tokens or even "biometric" methods, such as digital fingerprinting or eye scanning.
