IIAA Names Soto As Chairman Of Communications Committee
"Alex Soto, for years, has been dedicated to improving the insurance community and he has considerable expertise on the subject of natural disasters," said Bud Wilson, IIAA president. "In his new role, Alex continues as a key player in our efforts to ensure the independent agency system is the distribution channel of choice."
As Communications Committee chairman, Soto assists IIAA staff in overseeing IIAA's National Communications Program. The company-supported program promotes the independent agency system through a strategic mix of public relations, Internet communications, consumer education and a cable TV advertising campaign.
Soto was a charter member of the first IIAA Catastrophe Committee and has been at the forefront of insurance industry efforts to educate agents and consumers on natural disaster issues. He has conducted seminars for the IIAA and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) annual conventions and has addressed numerous groups nationwide on topics such as disaster preparedness, insurance coverage recovery, market conditions and duties of agents in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Soto is a former chairman of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA), president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dade Country, and vice chairman of the Florida Property Casualty Joint Underwriting Association (FPCJUA). He also is active in his community as chairman of the Coral Gables cable television board, trustee of the Archdiocese of Miami Trust, and member of both the Grove Outreach Center and the St. Hugh Catholic Church parish council.
