Education, Networking And More At PIANY's 23rd Annual Long Island RAP

Glenmont, NY - The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. will host its 23rd annual Long Island Regional Awareness Program, April 10, 2008, at Leonard's of Great Neck, Great Neck, N.Y. Hundreds of insurance professionals are expected to attend the all-day event, which is PIANY's oldest RAP.

"nsurance professionals in this region face much different scenarios and challenges in the industry than their colleagues throughout New York state," said Long Island RAP Committee Chair Peter Resnick. "Long Island RAP gives independent agents numerous opportunities to explore issues that affect their businesses and the lives of their clients. The event provides the tools needed to enhance their knowledge of the industry and provide better service to their customers."

Education sessions scheduled for Long Island RAP 2008 include:

  • Cutting expenses in the E&S market in the 21st century, presented by Daniel F. Maher, Esq., executive director of Excess Line Association of New York, and Eugene Nunziata, education/communications director of ELANY, from 8-10:40a.m. The course will examine various regulatory reform proposals used to modernize and streamline access to the excess and surplus market, ultimately saving independent agents money. Discover ways to cut expenses and frictional costs; place business easily; create uniform regulations and standards; and more.
  • Flood Insurance, presented by Sheldon Hansen, CIC, CRM, Brouwer Hansen and Izdebski Associates from 3-5:45 p.m. The course will cover the basics of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Flood Insurance Program. Agents will be able to gain a basic understanding of the NFIP and share this information with their customers. This course meets FEMA's minimum training and education requirements as required by Section 207 of the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004, for all insurance agents who sell Standard Flood Insurance Policies issued through the NFIP.

Both education sessions are approved for New York state continuing education credits.

In addition to the education sessions, Long Island RAP will feature a keynote address by Daniel W. King, director of agency development personal lines, Travelers Insurance, White Plains, N.Y.

During the event's luncheon activities, the Long Island RAP Executive of the Year award will be presented to Robert Boyle, CPCU, president of the North Sea Insurance Co. Participants also will have access to a sold-out tradeshow and a coffee and dessert reception.
