Duffy Names St. Paul Re Executive Management Team

Jim Duffy, the president of St. Paul Re, has announced the executive management group for the combined operations of St. Paul Re, the reinsurance operation of The St. Paul Companies. Duffy termed the appointments as the, "next steps in our progress toward integrating the operations of St. Paul Re and F&G Re." The Morristown, N.J.-based company was formerly the reinsurance operation of USF+G Corp., which merged with The St. Paul Companies in April.

Michael Schell, was appointed managing director of St. Paul Reinsurance Co. Ltd. in London and president, international underwriting, with strategic responsibility for the overall international book of business of St. Paul Re and F&G Re.

Dwight Evans, formerly an executive vice president at F&G Re, was appointed executive vice president-North American property treaty for the combined St. Paul Re-F&G Re operations in the U.S. Evans continues in his responsibility for administrative management of the Morristown, N.J. office.

Elizabeth (Liz) Mitchell was appointed executive vice president-North American casualty treaty, also for the combined operation. Mitchell formerly headed the specialty underwriting operation at St. Paul Re's New York headquarters.

John Rathgeber was named executive vice president-worldwide specialty/non-traditional, responsible for all specialty underwriting by the combined reinsurance operation. Specialty underwriting includes financial reinsurance and other "non-traditional" lines. Rathgeber previously was senior vice president at F&G Re.

Peter Aubrey-Smith was appointed executive vice president-international treaty and business development, St. Paul Re. Aubrey-Smith's responsibilities include the Hong Kong, Miami, Munich, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo branch offices.

Tim Olson, previously executive vice president-F&G Re, was named executive vice president-international treaty, F&G Re, continuing in his responsibility for management of the international treaty business underwritten from the Morristown, N.J. office. Olson also is now responsible for St. Paul Re's Financial Lines unit, which underwrites bond, credit and other financial lines reinsurance.

William (Bill) Davis and William (Bill) Weimer each were named to the executive management group, in their continuing posts as senior vice presidents, respectively, for facultative reinsurance for St. Paul Re and F&G Re.

Neal Schmidt was appointed executive vice president and continues as chief actuary for the combined operations of St. Paul Re and F&G Re.

David Grefe, chief financial officer, also was appointed executive vice president and chief administrative officer, with responsibility for all non- underwriting staff functions worldwide.
