Copart To Enter the San Diego Market

Benecia, CA-based Copart Inc. says it has acquired Auto Storage Auction Pool of San Diego to enter the San Diego market. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquired operation comprises 32 acres of property and facilities for storage, preparation and sale of salvage and other auction vehicles. "This new facility expands Copart's vehicle auction to San Diego and surrounding areas," says Willis J. Johnson, Copart's CEO. "Combined with our operations in Van Nuys, Colton and metropolitan Los Angeles, Copart now provides broad services throughout the Southern California region, one of the largest markets for salvage and other auction vehicles in the United States."

Since July 1997, Copart has acquired salvage vehicle auction operations in Avon, MN; Columbia, SC; Mobile, AL; and San Diego, CA. Additionally, the company has opened new salvage vehicle auction operations in Orlando, FL; Raleigh, NC; and Las Vegas, NV; and has expanded operations in Oklahoma City and Waldorf, MD, which serves Washington, DC and surrounding areas.

Copart, founded in 1982, provides insurance companies, with a full range of services to process and sell salvage vehicles through auctions, principally to licensed dismantlers, rebuilders and used vehicle dealers.
