Construction and claims management firm taps former Travelers vice chair

Atlanta-based Project Time & Cost (PT&C), a construction management and cost-engineering firm, has named Stanton Long its chief executive officer. Long brings 30 years of insurance industry experience and claims expertise to PT&C, where he will be responsible for overseeing the company's continued growth and for expanding its range of services in the insurance field, particularly in the area of claims management.

Long has served as vice chairman of PT&C's board of directors since October. A former vice chairman of Travelers Property Casualty Corporation, Long served most recently as chairman of claims services for Travelers Property Casualty Corporation until the end of last year.

Long will focus initial attention on the growth of the firm's direct home repair program called ptc-net, an Internet-enabled insurance claims management service with a nationwide managed contractor network designed to offer quality home repair service at reduced cost.

Ptc-net's Internet-enabled direct repair network features pre-screened and pre-approved home repair contractors and a regionalized database of labor and material costs. This allows contractors in more than 100 metropolitan areas across the United States to price repair work based on fully accurate labor and material costs. Use of this data and ptc-net's proprietary estimating software reduces the time and paperwork in preparing construction estimates, contracts, and in obtaining insurance company approvals. Credentialed contractors work to written service standards and the contractor and ptc-net guarantee the quality of their work for one year on materials and three years on workmanship.

"Since our founding eighteen years ago, our two great strengths have been cost engineering and understanding the needs of the insurance industry," said Gene Brooks, chairman of the board of PT&C. "Marrying these strengths led directly to the development of ptc-net. We saw this as a great opportunity and Stan's leadership and stature in the insurance industry will help us tremendously.

"I am thrilled to have one of the top names in the insurance industry today take the helm at PT&C," continued Brooks. "Stan Long is highly regarded as an innovator in the insurance industry and has a long history of foreseeing marketplace changes, developing creative solutions and embracing technology to improve operations. Stan's very presence in our organization lends great credibility to the value of our approach."

"Ptc-Net is designed to address two major concerns of property/casualty insurers—reducing claims costs and improving customer service," said Long. "Insurers that can succeed at these challenges will dominate the business in the future. I am certain that ptc-net can and will set the industry standard in using technology and cost-engineering expertise to improve claim handling results."

Long will also focus his energies on expanding some of PT&C's other services, including litigation support, environmental support and project management.

Prior to joining Travelers, Long was president of AIG Claims Services, a subsidiary of American International Group and vice president of domestic general claims for AIG. Before that, he was president and chief executive officer of SAIF Corporation, a workers' compensation insurance company based in Oregon.

Long also has broad public sector experience, having served as director of the State of Oregon's Department of Commerce, city attorney for Eugene Oregon, deputy attorney general for the State of Oregon and chairman of the Oregon Land and Conservation Development Commission.
