Connecticut Healthcare Workers' Compensation Trust Recognized By Celent For Effective Technology

Hartford - ChoicePoint announced recently that Celent, LLC, insurance technology research and advisory firm, has recognized one of ChoicePoint's clients, the Connecticut Healthcare Workers' Compensation Trust (CHWCT), as a "Model Carrier Component." Cited in a new report – Celent Model Carrier 2007: Case Studies in Effective Use of Technology in Insurance – the CHWCT was praised for its use of ChoicePoint's Insurity technology to revamp its medical bill review system.

CHWCT revamped its medical bill review system utilizing Insurity software, which enabled CHWCT to integrate national benchmark billing data with utilization-review protocols that ensure appropriate medical services were used. That, coupled with access to national preferred provider organizations with discounting arrangements, resulted in substantial savings for its clients.

"Insurity, our software partner, provided the technology that ensured these components were enlisted at various stages of the payment process. We experienced savings far greater than a 100 percent return on investment for our members," said CHWCT CEO Diane Ritucci. "This unique billing review process is scalable, and we'll be launching it as an unbundled service to other clients as well."

In Celent's report, "Model Carrier Components" are presented as components of a composite insurer's insurance IT systems and practices. These Model Carrier Components are examples of initiatives and practices that help insurers improve performance, meet market demands and operate efficiently.

The report, which was presented at Celent's inaugural Model Carrier Summit in New York in January, contained case studies of 39 technology initiatives and practices across most functional areas of insurance. Model Carrier Components were selected by Celent's team of insurance analysts. Nominations were solicited from over 100 insurers in the US and internationally.
