The Client:

Our client is a leading U.S. based international insurance organization and one of the largest underwriters of commercial and industrial coverage in the United States. Its member companies write property, casualty, marine, life and financial lines insurance in approximately 130 countries and jurisdictions around the globe, and are engaged in a range of financial services and asset management businesses.

Having pioneered Insurance products and developed Insurance applications for decades our client set up a subsidiary to provide strategic Insurance technology and system services to other insurance companies.

The Business Problem:

The main challenge for our client was to transform its current range of mainframe and client server applications to Internet-based software products and thus provide affordable yet modern solutions to its customers. To be successful our client needed a service provider with very good experience in insurance business and has a wide breath of skills and expertise in developing and managing large Internet projects. They found that service provider in Business Software Solutions.

Business Software Solutions was contracted to develop a browser independent fully-fledged Internet Claims system.

The Solution:

Having executed a number of insurance projects using a variety of technologies we had an in-depth understanding of both the business and technology.

Business Software Solutions used Java and SWING to develop applets for client presentation, Microsoft's IIS Web server, a pure Java based application server that manages Client requests using object streaming, database connection using JDBC to an Oracle 8 transactional database. Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures are used to manipulate, retrieve and store data.

The application currently in production supports various functions such as claims registration, claims administration, automated indemnity and expense reserving, financial processing, check printing and automated E-mails to executive management proving critical information required to monitor and administer claims. Apart from the above functions the system also interfaces with external statutory Claim bureaus.

This work was performed at our development facility in New Jersey where we maximized productivity and reduced overall project costs. Our team managed the entire systems development life cycle of the project.
