Chubb Broadens Its Customer Base For Hands-On Loss Prevention Instruction
Training Center Offers Courses in Fire Protection and Safety to Building Inspectors, Contractors and Others
Warren, NJ - The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has begun to offer hands-on training in fire protection and property loss prevention to building inspectors and other municipal officials, facilities managers, sprinkler system installers and contractors. The courses, which were previously open only to insurance customers, agents and brokers and local fire officials, will be held in Chubb's state-of-the-art Loss Control Training Center on the campus of the company's world headquarters in Warren.
"The Chubb Loss Control Training Center, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is one of just a few such facilities in the country," said Steven D. Hernandez, senior vice president of Chubb & Son and worldwide loss control services manager for Chubb Commercial Insurance. "We're thrilled to open up the facility to more organizations, helping them receive safety training that is vital to protecting lives and property."
The training center is equipped with seven different sprinkler systems, two fire pumps and controllers, many portable fire extinguishers, smoke and fire detectors, and more. A glass-walled fire chamber allows participants to see how different sprinkler systems react to fire—without getting wet. In addition to traditional classroom instruction and exercises, participants can operate the equipment to gain familiarity with systems found in most facilities.
"The hands-on training is the most valuable aspect of the center," Hernandez said. "We continually upgrade the equipment at the center to ensure that we teach using the latest in fire protection and safety technology."
Chubb's loss-control programs also incorporate identification of property hazards, their causes and ways to help prevent them.
The Chubb Loss Control Training Center offers a wide range of half-day, full-day and two-day seminars that cover a broad array of property conservation methods, the latest codes, standards and regulations, and best practices for maintaining fire protection systems. Individual topics include automatic fire pumps; automatic sprinkler systems; fire detection and alarm systems; and warehouse and other property fire protection methods. The center also is available for private, customized seminars designed to meet an organization's specific needs.
