Two new publications entitled "California Employers-An Important Notice about Workers' Compensation Insurance" and "Brokers' and Agents' Guide to the Loss Control Certification Program" are designed to informing California employers, brokers, agents, and the public, of the health and safety services available to them.

The first publication advises employers that, at no additional cost to them, their workers' compensation carrier is required by law to assist them in reducing injuries and illness at the worksite. It encourages employers to call their carrier to have a professional come to their business and look for conditions that are harmful, and to help them develop a plan to correct the dangers and assist in creating a safer workplace.

The brochure also encourages employers to contact their compensation carrier to find out if they are a "selected employer," which by law requires that they receive more in-depth specific safety and health services from their carrier. The brochure includes several phone numbers and references for other types of assistance available to California employers.

The second publication also includes specific information about the law and the certification program, but is aimed at showing brokers and agents what an important part they play in loss control, as well as in controlling workplace injuries and illnesses. The brochure explains how the knowledge of the certification program can be an effective tool for increasing broker and agent business while reducing client costs. It also encourages brokers' and agents' to make sure loss control is part of their marketing package when they sell or renew workers' compensation policies.
