Allstate Elects John Carl As CFO

The board of directors at Allstate has elected John L. Carl senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective Apr. 1, 1999. He replaces Thomas J. Wilson, who recently became president of Allstate Life Insurance Co.

Carl, 50, joins Allstate from the Amoco Corp., where he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer since 1994.

"Throughout his career, John has held key financial positions across a wide range of corporations and industries. His extensive experience and shareholder value orientation will enhance Allstate's strategies as we enter the next stage of our growth," said Edward M. Liddy, Allstate's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Prior to joining Amoco in 1991, Carl served as vice president and chief financial officer of National Computer Systems. He was vice president and corporate controller of Kraft Inc. from 1986 to 1989, and from 1972 to 1986 he held positions of increasing responsibility with American Hospital Supply Corp. Carl has a bachelor of science in economics from Purdue University and a master's degree in business administration and finance from Indiana University.
