AIG Unit Offers Training Tools for Long-Term Care Facilities

AIG Consultants, part of American International Group (AIG), says that its Healthcare Management Division (AIGC HM) has introduced AIG Caring Advantage, a self-contained educational toolkit developed specifically for Long-Term Care facilities. The kit offers nursing homes tools to educate employees about resident care issues that are common sources of resident injury and liability.

AIG Caring Advantage uses a modular approach. The first toolkit, currently available, is Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers. The next two toolkits, scheduled for release in the fall of 2000, are Principles for Documenting Clinical Records and Prevention of Patient Falls. Additional toolkits are scheduled for release in 2001.

Each toolkit is communicates and reinforces key concepts by using multiple training methods. These may include videotape, employee in-service training presentations, educational booklets, posters and tip cards, as well as an employee training log. AIGC HM says the program requires no development or preparation time to use, as even the employee in-service training presentation comes complete with presentation graphics and a fully scripted trainer narrative. All toolkit components are packaged within a permanent binder that can be used to store all materials.

In addition to providing AIG Caring Advantage, the company offers assistance in developing and implementing additional communication and follow-up strategies for each toolkit. It also offers a variety of other services to support the risk management and quality management activities of the healthcare industry.

AIG Caring Advantage is available free of charge to most Long-Term Care facilities that have professional liability insurance through AIG Healthcare, a division of the American International Companies. Organizations that do not have professional liability insurance through AIG Healthcare may purchase AIG Caring Advantage.
