AEGIS Energy Syndicate 1225 Opens for Business at Lloyd's
Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Ltd. (AEGIS), a leading insurer of utilities in the United States, has opened a syndicate at Lloyd's. AEGIS Energy Syndicate 1225 is accepting risks effective Jan. 1, 1999. The syndicate will focus on energy, electric and gas utility, telecommunications, and water companies. It offers a broad array of insurance products, including liability, specialty energy, property, and marine.
"We now bring the same high quality products and services to U.K. and international utilities and energy companies that we have delivered to the U.S. market for the past 23 years," said Alan J. Maguire, president and chief executive officer of AEGIS. "We are already insuring the international operations of many of our U.S. Members, so it is a natural extension of our business to bring the same benefits to customers in the Lloyd's market."
Christopher J. Martin, active underwriter, joins AEGIS Energy Syndicate 1225 from Royal & Sun Alliance. He has 29 years experience as an underwriter in the energy and marine market, 24 of them in Lloyd's. In addition, Charles Letts joins AEGIS International Insurance Services Ltd. (AEGIS International), the capital provider for the syndicate, as managing director. Letts was managing director of Aon Energy, and has been a broker in the London market for 30 years.
Martin said, "AEGIS has a superb reputation and strong relationship with its customer base. It is very refreshing to be supported by such well-informed, long-term capacity. The syndicate will add value to the Lloyd's market by providing new capacity, with a vision that fits well with the Lloyd's concept."
Amlin Capital Management Ltd., a Lloyd's Managing Agency, is providing insurance management services to the syndicate.
