ACE Bermuda Announces Promotions

ACE Bermuda Insurance Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of ACE Limited, has made the following promotions: Janet Deer Osborne to assistant vice president, Aviation; Peter Pilawa to assistant vice president, Property; Gary Burnet to assistant vice president, Investments; and Karen Bucher to a newly established position, assistant vice president, Casualty.

Gary Schmalzriedt, president and CEO of ACE Bermuda, said, "This talented group of employees exemplifies the commitment that ACE Bermuda and the other companies in the ACE Group have made to providing innovative and creative risk solutions to our clients. I am proud to have them in this company and pleased to publicly acknowledge their much deserved accomplishments."

Deer Osborne, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and a chartered insurer, joined ACE in the Aviation division in March 1996 in the position of assistant underwriter and in September 1998 was promoted to underwriter in the Aviation Division. Deer Osborne has just successfully completed the final part of the Insurance Institute of America course securing an Associate in Management designation.

Pilawa joined the Westchester Fire Insurance Company in 1996 as senior property underwriter. Westchester Fire became a part of ACE USA when the Westchester Specialty Group was acquired by ACE Limited in January 1998. Pilawa was transferred to ACE Bermuda in October 1998 to assist with the establishment of business opportunities among the ACE Group of Companies, in general, and between ACE USA and ACE Bermuda, in particular.

Burnet joined ACE in April 1998 as senior investment accountant. Burnet, a Chartered Accountant, is currently preparing for the CFA level 2 exams. Prior to joining ACE, he was employed by Cooper and Lines as a Senior Auditor.

Bucher, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry to her new position. Bucher joined ACE Bermuda in August 1997 as marketing manager and was promoted to assistant vice president, Marketing in August 1998. Her responsibilities now include managing and underwriting Punitive Damages cover for existing ACE USA clients and managing the inward and outward reinsurance for the division. Bucher is the chairperson of the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) Education Committee and is also an active member of the BII Council.
