Accident Fund's New Pharmacy Program is Prescription for Success
"As Michigan's leading workers' compensation insurer, we strive to provide the most innovative programs and comprehensive care," says Mark Hogle, executive vice president of claims administration and medical management. "The program makes prescriptions for work-related injury or illness more obtainable with less hassle."
When a claim is reported, Accident Fund Company issues a prescription card to the injured worker to present to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan pharmacists. More than 50,000 chains and independent pharmacies participate in Blue Cross plans nationwide, including more than 2,000 in Michigan. Historically, injured employees had to pay for prescriptions and submit receipts for reimbursement.
The new pharmacy program is part of Accident Fund Company's WorkSafe Care Program. The program offers referral to selected occupationally sensitive providers and physicians and return-to-work assistance. Qualified employers receive premium credits up to 15% on their workers' compensation policy for participation in the program.
"Providing the best possible care and services for injured workers creates a win-win for everyone," Hogle says. "With immediate, effective treatment, the employee is often able to return to productive work more quickly, the employer's loss experience is improved, and the costs associated with replacing the skills of that worker are less."
