IIAA Sets Dates For 1999 Legislative Conference
The legislative conference will begin with an in-depth legislative issues briefing session in the late afternoon of April 14. The briefing will be followed immediately by the opening-night reception at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
There will be several opportunities for agents to hear prominent, leading members of Congress talk about the issues confronting the nation and the insurance industry on Capitol Hill.
The breakfast session on April 15 at the Grand Hyatt will feature two members of Congress speaking about the important insurance and national issues confronting lawmakers and agents on Capitol Hill. After the breakfast, attendees will embark on their meetings on Capitol Hill with their House members and senators throughout the day.
The 5th annual IIAA Congressional Reception for all congressional members and senior staffers and conference attendees will be held the evening of April 15. This special reception will be conducted at a site somewhere on Capitol Hill.
The conference will conclude April 16 with a breakfast session featuring senior lawmakers talking about the important issues of the day. Agents will dedicate the remainder of the last day to more visits with their elected representatives in Congress.
"The coming year's legislative agenda will be crowded with a number of unresolved agent issues including financial services reform, natural disaster reform, health care reform, auto insurance reform, tax issues and a number of other pressing concerns," said IIAA President William B. Greenwood. "Next year quickly is shaping up to be a pivotal one for agents on Capitol Hill.
"The outstanding participation by agents in the National Legislative Conference every year helps to communicate the legislative agenda of agents to members of Congress and set the tone on the issues for the remainder of the year on Capitol Hill," says Greenwood, president of Lawton Insurance, Central City, KY. "Also, there are many new faces in Congress and a remade leadership team in the House who need education on agent legislative concerns and a familiar face from their district they can turn to for answers about insurance issues."
